Why do they make rolls this big?

Yesterday I went to Utrecht to buy gum tape (for stretching watercolor paper). I sauntered over to the tape section, and behold:

(dimensions: 4" x 200' x holy hannah)

"Uh, do you have any smaller rolls?"

"Nope, that's the only size we carry."

"Who on earth needs this much watercolor tape?! And who needs it this thick?!"

. . .

Apparently me.

I can now stretch a 50' x 50' sheet of paper. Watch me do it.
